As the battle between tree sitters in the Oak Grove near the Berkeley stadium, and arborists hired by the university to cut traverse lines and remove platforms continued for the second day Wednesday, one supporter climbed a light pole to join the protesters in the trees. This rough video captures what happened.

  1. I realize these are huge, well-established oak trees with massive root systems, but is digging them up and transplanting them to a different location totally out of the question? Just wondering.

They have big earth-movers now that can dig deeply into the ground.

If this is at all possible, I do understand that not all the trees would survive the move, but at least it would be an option.

  2. Sorry, Brian, but to dig up trees this large would so damage the root system that almost certainly none of them would survive. I’m pretty sure the tree protesters believe the trees must remain where they are anyway. But your attempt at finding some compromise is commendable.
