Police are asking for the public’s help in bringing to justice two of three suspects at large in the robbing, kidnapping and aggravated assault of a 79-year-old woman at her home in the Portola/Bayview neighborhood in May.

One suspect, Harden Sandie, 22, was arrested August 16 after a DNA match, police said.  He is in custody awaiting arraignment on multiple felony charges including robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and burglary.

Harden is being questioned but it is unclear if he is cooperating with investigators, police said.

Police cannot comment on specific physical, psychological or emotional injuries inflicted on victims but SFPD spokesperson Carlos Manfredi characterized the violent crime against the octogenarian victim as “very serious.”

SFPD press release follows:

On May 27, 2012 at 11:15AM, a 79 year old victim heard a knock on the front door of her home on the 200 Block of Gaven Street in the City’s Portola district. When she opened the door, two suspects rushed past her and into her residence. One of the suspects threw her to the ground and demanded money. A third suspect soon joined the first two. The suspects forced the victim to her bedroom where they went through her things. As two suspects ransacked her room, the third grabbed the victim by the throat and held her still. He then ripped the gold chains from her neck. The suspects then forced the victim to her garage area where they began to rummage through cabinets. When the victim called out for help, the suspects fled.

Officers from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the house and collected evidence. As a result, a Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) hit came back, positively identifying one of the suspects. The suspect, Sandie Harden, 22 years old of San Francisco was arrested and taken into custody by the Bayview SIT team and was booked into Bayview Station on charges of robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and burglary.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Bayview Station Investigation Team (SIT) at (415) 671-2300.
