It’s all about the money, honey

Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin yesterday fired off a scathing criticism of Mayor Gavin Newsom’s “we” decision to alter the torch route and cancel the closing ceremonies at Justin Herman Plaza.

“Gavin Newsom runs San Francisco the way the premier of China runs his country — secrecy, lies, misinformation, lack of transparency, and manipulating the populace,” Peskin told the San Francisco Chronicle. “He misled supporters and opponents of the run.”

“People brought their families and their children, and he hatched a cynical plan to please the Bush state department and the Chinese government because of the incredible influence of money.

“He did it so China can report they had a great torch run. It’s the worst kind of government – government by deceit and misinformation,” Peskin said.

Meanwhile, reliable sources tell Fog City Journal that Chinese consular officials were involved in the “we” decision made to alter the torch route and cancel the closing ceremonies at Justin Herman Plaza.

Olympics in “crisis” over torch chaos

Today the AP is reporting, “IOC president Jacques Rogge said Thursday the turmoil surrounding the Beijing torch relay and the politically charged buildup to the Summer Games posed a ‘crisis’ for the Olympic movement.”

“It is a crisis, there is no doubt about that,” Rogge said.
