Supervisor Eric Mar today doused a rumor being circulated suggesting he will not seek re-election to the District 1 seat in November.

“The rumor is completely false,” Mar said, responding to FCJ inquiry. “I am running for re-election to the Board of Supervisors and am currently building my campaign team and talking to consultants.”

Mar did confirm, however, he will not seek re-election to the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC) in June.  District 11 Supervisor John Avalos, who is also seeking re-election to the Board in November, told FCJ Thursday he is leaning towards not seeking re-election to the DCCC.

Elsbernd Early Endorses in D7 Race?

Termed out District 7 Supervisor Sean Elsbernd has early-endorsed Board of Appeals Vice President Michael Garcia in the race to replace Elsbernd on the Board of Supervisors, Garcia relayed to FCJ prior to the inauguration of District Attorney George Gascón on Thursday.

As chair of the Ethics Commission in 2004, Garcia was instrumental in fast-tracking Elsbernd’s appointment to the Board of Supervisors by then Mayor Gavin Newsom following Newsom’s appointment of former Supervisor Tony Hall to head the Treasure Island Development Authority.

Elsbernd did not return an email request seeking comment, or to confirm his endorsement of Garcia.

Lee Remains Tight-Lipped on D5 Appointment

Mayor-elect Ed Lee remains tight-lipped on his much-anticipated appointment in D5 to serve out Sheriff-elect Ross Mirkarimi’s term on the Board of Supervisors.  Even his Chief of Staff, Steve Kawa, is in the dark.

“Cross my heart,” Kawa told FCJ on Thursday.  “I promise you, I have no idea who he [Lee] will appoint.”

Asked about the appointment, Lee told FCJ he will announce his appointment on Monday, one day after Mirkarimi is sworn in as sheriff and one day before the Board of Supervisors convenes its weekly meeting.

“Male or female?” FCJ asked Lee.

Lee’s response?  A radiant smile.
