
Kennedy Mahdavi, 16, holds a bag that will be filled with dried vegetables, soy, rice, and a special mixture of vitamins and minerals. “It’s pretty cool that we can help out,” said Mahdavi. Kids Against Hunger, an organization that feeds the under resourced at home and abroad, set up their site at the Alameda County Fairgrounds last Wednesday (June 27, 2012) and invited people in the area to stop by and help bag food to reach a goal of 100 thousand bags in a day. Each bag can feed up to six people and all filled bags from Wednesday will be shipped from Oakland to Haiti by the end of next week.

Joe Fitzgerald is a born and bred San Franciscan covering his beloved hometown. Having studied journalism as a reporter and Editor for City College of San Francisco's "The Guardsman," he's covered everything from education issues to homicides.
He's also an adviser in the new summer mentorship program sponsored by Fog City Journal and the Pacific Media Workers Guild.
When he's not reporting, he's teaching; Fitzgerald is in his seventh year as an Artist-in-Residence at San Francisco's Ruth Asawa School of the Arts High School, giving post-production video workshops in the Media department.
