The California Supreme Court today denied a request by gay marriage opponents to stay their historic ruling legalizing gay marriages in California until after the November election.

The justices denied the stay request by a 4-3 vote, the same margin by which they voted to legalize gay marriage last month.

The gay marriage decision will now become final at 5 p.m. on June 16, according to a court announcement.
