Denver, CO — For all you California Democrats out there who are wondering why California passed in the roll call vote to decide the Democratic Nominee for President of the United States, Senator Barbara Boxer just personally conducted a series of on-the-fly briefings on the floor of the Convention for California Delegates.

All state legislators – many of whom were PLEO (Pledged Elected Officials) delegates here at the Convention – were called back to Sacramento to deal with budget deliberations this morning. This call apparently caught us a bit off-guard, as the leadership scurried to replace the PLEO’s with alternate delegates like me.

I got a call at about 2 pm from California Democratic Party Chair Art Torres asking me to report as quickly as possible to the Denver Sheraton. Although I was on the other side of downtown, heading towards the Pepsi Center, I hopped on a bus and got back to the hotel in 10 minutes. I cast my vote for Obama, picked up a new Delegate credential, and headed directly back to the Pepsi Center.

Apparently my journey was more successful than other alternate delegates, because when California was called for roll call, we still had a number of alternates that had not yet voted, so we passed.

The final California tally: 273 delegates for Barack Obama, 166 for Hillary Clinton.

  1. Chris Daly’s voting record on the Board of Supes coincides with what I would vote for, were I ever to hold his political office—an absolute impossibilty, that I could seek it or win it.

And I cannot help but be amazed that he would respond so enthusiastically to hearing Barack Obama assure all his campaign contributors that he would take care of them by saying he would “find a safe way to harness nuclear power, promote clean coal, and biofuels.”

There is no way to safely harness nuclear power and there is so much nuclear waste now piling up in dry cask storage, which it will, in time burn through, that many people think it’s already too late to prevent it from becoming a global disaster.

There is no clean coal and biofuels are probably the greatest cause of starvation in the world today, especially in Africa. Isn’t this a bit ironic given that Barack Obama is half African?

Obama’s acceptance speech filled me and many others I know with deep despair.

  2. That has got to be the fastest-growing beard in San Francisco. I hope there’s a spot for Chris in the next production of “Emo: The Musical.” Part 2: The Candidate.
