Mayor Gavin Newsom will swear in Supervisor-elect David Campos to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
The District 9 seat was vacated by the early departure of former Supervisor Tom Ammiano who now serves on the California State Assembly.
“It’s a gracious step by the mayor to appoint me early,” Campos said. “On a personal level, it’s a tremendous honor to represent the residents of District 9.”

I realize that for some Fog City Journal readers David Campos will never be “progressive enough,” but we do have a lot of work to do as a city in 2009.
Crime, grime, locked-up parks, huge budget deficit, disjointed bike paths, graffiti (which has never been worse in my entire 28 years living in San Francisco), tree plantings, youth activities, traffic congestion, etc. These challenges are pretty universal, regardless of district and regardless of one being a tenant or landlord. These problems really cry out for NEW approaches to solve them.
So, Mr. Campos, I wish you all the best. Just concentrate on making the city a better place to live and you’ll be fine.
I hope that David Campos will vote for a progressive Board President, Ross Mirkarimi, John Avalos, or Eric Mar, though I don’t believe Eric wants the job.
I hope that all the Supervisors are progressive and supervise to the best of their ability. I supervise myself, I have a view over a park and supervise the people by shouting at them. One of my favourites is ” Get off the bowling lawn assholes”. I have learnt over the years that supervising is not enjoyed by all supervisees. Best to avoid overt supervising and do it progressively.
