Emmett Berg
Bio
Emmett Berg has been a journalist since 1997. Now a contributor to national newspapers and magazines, Emmett traded in an English degree from Georgetown University to become a reporter-photographer for the Hungry Horse News, a weekly in the state of Montana near where he grew up. Moving to southern California in 1999, Emmett began writing for a Los Angeles news wire service and in 2001 began contributing outdoors and health features to the Los Angeles Times. Interest in public policy and land use led Emmett to the Los Angeles-based Center for Governmental Studies, where from 2002-2004 he led an investigation into California homebuilding in wildfire and flood zones. Later in 2004 Emmett joined UCLA's Institute for Democracy, Education and Access as a media consultant. By then freelance writing began to assume a greater role in Emmett's work, and in 2006 he became a West Coast correspondent for the New York Post. That year Emmett married his wife Esther and moved to San Francisco. Most recently he began writing articles for California Lawyer magazine.
