At the time, I commended the Jewish Film Festival for showing the film. Unfortunately, some within the Jewish community see a “new anti-Semitism” when criticism of Israel is depicted in films like “Rachel.” I like to think that “Rachel” sparked a healthy debate within the Jewish Community about the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The mostly Jewish audience at the documentary enthusiastically welcomed the film.

There’s good reason Gonzalez is being considered for the interim post: Gonzalez has the highest vote totals in a race for San Francisco mayor without winning, narrowly losing to Newsom in 2003 with 119,329 votes to Newsom’s 133,546 votes.

At a hastily called news conference, sparsely attended, he referred to “the armada of hate and violence in support of the Hamas terror organization,” accusing peaceful activists of a “premeditated and outrageous provocation,” saying “The organizers are well known for their ties with global Jihad, Al Qaeda and Hamas. (Their) intent was violent, their method was violent, and the results were unfortunately violent.”

And as for SFPD Chief Gascon, who is Newsom’s wingman on this caper, even he is careful not to admit that police enforcement of loitering laws is the solution to many of the problems being raised. No, instead, Gascon is now a politician in a taxpayers’ funded uniform, endorsing candidates and going along with Newsom’s sham like former Prime minister Tony Blair went along with George Bush’s pack of lies over weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

I see three basic categories of candidates in this race. Let’s start with the candidates who are not Progressives. Clearly they will criticize the Progressive Primary, just as they will criticize progressive values and issues. I am confident that any of our progressive candidates can handle any downtown candidate in a one-on-one debate. It’s easy enough to contrast downtown’s disdain for a progressive “litmus test” while they actively support their own litmus test for rent control! Sorry, but that doesn’t fly in the tenant-rich neighborhoods of D6. As for the downtown establishment, they are smart to attack the Progressive Primary. Their visions of sneaking away with the District 6 seat are quickly dissipating!

Although the relentless and incessant spates of mainstream media’s psychological warfare have turned Iran into a hazardous and insecure region in the eyes of global public opinions, thousands of Western tourists “take the risk” of traveling to Iran each year to behold in person the concealed and withheld realities of the peaceful and magnificent Iran which a hawkish leader had idiotically categorized as a part of the so-called “Axis of Evil”.
