San Francisco, CA—More than 200 public defenders and allies held a “hands up, don’t shoot” protest today on the steps of San Francisco’s criminal courthouse to show support for racial justice and stand in solidarity with protesters in New York, Ferguson and around the country.
The Senate Torture Report found, among other things, that the CIA misled Congress, the Justice Department and President George W. Bush about the “effectiveness” of torture methods used, including waterboarding, rectal feeding, shackling detainees in painful positions, prolonged sleep deprivation and slamming detainees against walls.
There is a saying that if a prosecutor wants it, the grand jury would indict a ham sandwich. However, in cases involving police shootings, grand juries tend not to indict.
What is puzzling is why the authors of Proposition E chose to have the tax proceeds go to a special fund rather than to the general fund, thus requiring a two-thirds majority to pass.
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D. CA) should expedite the release of the Senate Torture Report before she loses her position as Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI).
That big “L” affixed to the foreheads of most Democrats across the country doesn’t stand for their party losing big in the midterm elections. It stands for their gutless loser mentality by not challenging Republicans’ derisive talking points about their party’s significant accomplishments.
