In May, I began a new role as chief organizer for <a href=\"http:\/\/nationbuilder.com\">NationBuilder<\/a>, a software platform that aims to equip grassroots activists, small businesses, NGOs and candidates with the kind of organizing tools that are usually reserved only for those with deep pockets. NationBuilder is the brainchild of Jim Gilliam, a progressive activist who co-founded Robert Greenwald&#8217;s Brave New Films. Jim is also creator of Act.ly and TweetProgress.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->NationBuilder is nonpartisan, and <a href=\"http:\/\/nationbuilder.com\/politicalforce\">announced<\/a> in May a partnership with Political FORCE, an Austin-based firm that, like us, wants to shake up the political system. Our partnership with Political FORCE allows us to offer free access to the voter file for candidates and campaigns across the U.S. at our basic subscription rate of $19 a month. NationBuilder integrates on- and offline contacts in a robust customer management system that allows organizers to easily track contacts and pledges and reach out to donors and prospects. It also has an events management suite that integrates with Facebook and Meetup, eliminating that messy problem of trying to juggle RSVPs and contacts between Facebook and your own site.<\/p>\n<p>For the past couple years, I&#8217;ve been doing a lot of work with City Attorney Herrera on government social media, including managing the SFCityAttorney Twitter account and working on projects such as the SF Fire App initiative and Let&#8217;s Do It SF. In my new job, I will be able to devote myself fully to my passion for online organizing, working with activists and technologists around the world to grow the ability to instigate meaningful action through online connections.
