All eyes will be on Supervisor David Campos at today\u2019s Board of Supervisors meeting over the appointment of corporate defense attorney Julius Turman to the San Francisco Police Commission.<\/p>\n

Apparently the progressive supe is uncomfortable with his support for Turman, according to a reliable source, but remains committed to Turman despite damaging<\/a> reports<\/a> of Turman\u2019s record absenteeism<\/a> on the Human Rights Commission.<\/p>\n

Turman could also find himself in the less than desirable position of having to recuse himself<\/a> from police commission issues involving domestic violence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So why is Campos ignoring the obvious and risking his progressive credentials and political capital in supporting a less than qualified candidate?<\/p>\n

Campos maintains his personal relationship with Turman, which dates back to 1997, outweighs his consideration of whether Turman is qualified to serve the people of San Francisco on the police commission.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not quite the full story: Turman also donated $500 to Campos\u2019 2008 campaign for supervisor.<\/p>\n

Responding, Campos denied Turman\u2019s contribution to his campaign for supervisor is influencing his consideration for Turman’s appointment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am supporting this guy because I know who he is and he\u2019ll be right on the issues that come before police commission,\u201d Campos said of Turman.<\/p>\n

Ok, but what about Turman\u2019s documented record absenteeism on the Human Rights Commission?\u00a0 What if he doesn’t show up to vote on the issues important to Campos?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issue of integrity is important to me,\u201d Campos said. \u201cThis is no excuse, but it\u2019s not entirely clear to me whether Turman\u2019s reported absences are accurate.\u201d<\/p>\n
