San Francisco Democratic Party Chair and former Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin today endorsed community organizer Julian Davis in the ranked choice race for District 5 Supervisor.<\/p>\n

Peskin, known for his outspoken advocacy of tenant\u2019s rights, environmental causes, public transit and historic preservation, said Davis is the District 5 candidate best suited to continue the progressive legacy of the Board of Supervisors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve worked with Julian for many years,\u201d Peskin said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen him in action. He has the skills, intelligence, passion, and principle to excel as Supervisor. San Francisco needs his leadership and independence in the most progressive district in the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peskin\u2019s endorsement of Davis follows a well-attended campaign kick-off<\/a> event that attracted as many as 200 Davis supporters.\u00a0 Peskin\u2019s endorsement is being viewed as a rebuke of Mayor Ed Lee-appointed Supervisor Christina Olague who has come under fire from progressive circles for her efforts to repeal ranked choice voting<\/a>; to dismantle historic preservation protections<\/a>; her vote in support of a luxury condo development at 8 Washington \u2013 as well as allegations that she is participating in a cover up of conversations she is alleged to have engaged in with Mayor Lee<\/a> over the suspension of Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.<\/p>\n

Olague is also the beneficiary of $46,000<\/a> raised during a recent Chinatown campaign fundraiser attended by Lee<\/a> and organized by Rose Pak and former Mayor Willie Brown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always admired Aaron Peskin\u2019s leadership and ability to unite San Francisco\u2019s often disconnected progressive political factions,\u201d Davis said. \u201cI am honored to have his endorsement in this race.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2004, Thomas worked for several neighborhood newspapers in San Francisco before accepting a partnership agreement with the SanFranciscoSentinel.com, a news website formerly covering local, state and national politics. In September 2006, Thomas launched FogCityJournal.com. The BBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News, New York Times, Der Spiegel, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Magazine, 7x7, San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Bay Guardian and the San Francisco Weekly, among other publications and news outlets, have published his work.
