{"id":6306,"date":"2017-03-06T08:31:30","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T16:31:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/?p=6306"},"modified":"2017-03-06T08:36:07","modified_gmt":"2017-03-06T16:36:07","slug":"kedi-and-get-out-film-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/6306\/kedi-and-get-out-film-reviews\/","title":{"rendered":"Kedi and Get Out, film reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/author\/iberke\/\">Ian Berke<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>March 6, 2017<\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6307\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/plugins\/2017\/03\/kedi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"268\" \/><strong>Kedi<\/strong><\/em> is a Turkish documentary (kedi is Turkish for cats) about the stray cats of Istanbul, and a love letter to that exotic city.\u00a0You don\u2019t have to be a cat lover to love this film with its very affectionate look at these cats and the people of Istanbul, who care for them. The cinematography is wonderful, with the camera often gliding at cat level, showing their lives from birth to death.\u00a0The cat lovers interviewed are as interesting as the cats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you can\u2019t love animals, you cannot love people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cats are as integrated into the culture and\u00a0life of the city as are its human inhabitants. The soundtrack of Turkish traditional and rock music is great. <em>Kedi<\/em> is tremendously enjoyable film with insight and love. Running time: 80 minutes, showing at the Embarcadero, the Rafael, the Shattuck and Camera 3.<\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6309\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/plugins\/2017\/03\/get-out-tall.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/plugins\/2017\/03\/get-out-tall.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/plugins\/2017\/03\/get-out-tall-189x300.jpg 189w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><strong>Get Out<\/strong><\/em> is a sophisticated horror film with humorous touches, but definitely scary.\u00a0It\u2019s scary not because of vampires or zombies, but because of the ostensibly normal characters who seem much like us.<\/p>\n<p>The story begins just like\u00a0<em>Guess Who\u2019s Coming to Dinner<\/em>, where a black guy first meets his girlfriend\u2019s wealthy parents at their country mansion.\u00a0The parents are quite progressive and welcome him and try to say all the right things, some of which sounds exaggerated, such as raving about Tiger Woods.\u00a0They do have black servants whom they continually praise as \u201cfamily\u201d but who are a bit strange. Then the story begins to take a very different direction than expected.<\/p>\n<p>A first film by Jordan Peel that will make it hard to sleep after you\u2019ve seen it.
