That count alone carried a maximum $240,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Charges related to the use of campaign funds for meal expenditures following Hall&#8217;s withdrawal from the 2004 race for supervisor were also dropped.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--> In closing, the commission rejected defense attorney David Waggoner&rsquo;s claim that the investigation against Hall was politically motivated.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The commission rejects respondent&#8217;s suggestions that this was in anyway a &lsquo;travesty,&rsquo; or that the investigation was &lsquo;politically motivated,&rsquo;&rdquo; commissioner Jamienne Studley said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/images\/photos2008\/tony_hall_ethics_081208\/_w2w6583_std.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\nEthics Commissioner Jamienne Studley<\/p>\n<p>Hall <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fogcityjournal.com\/wordpress\/758\/inside-the-tony-hall-ethics-investigation-whos-really-behindthe-ethics-commission-investigation\/\">maintains<\/a> the investigation against him was conspired by Mayor Gavin Newsom, Supervisor Elsbernd and attorney Jim Sutton to prevent Hall from running against Newsom in 2007 and Elsbernd in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Anybody who has ever opposed Gavin Newsom, or his policies, has been investigated and fined by this ethics commission,&rdquo; Hall said following the hearing. &ldquo;This whole thing has been a setup from the word go&hellip;to inflict as much political damage as they could do.&rdquo;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flanked by co-defense counsel David Waggoner (right) and Peter Bagatelos (left), Former District 7 Supervisor Tony Hall breaks a smile when the San Francisco Ethics Commission finds him guilty on two minor counts of campaign&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-955","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-politics"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 - In 2001, Thomas took a yearlong sabbatical to travel and develop a photographic portfolio. Upon his return to the US, Thomas studied photojournalism to pursue a career in journalism. In 2004, Thomas worked for several neighborhood newspapers in San Francisco before accepting a partnership agreement with the SanFranciscoSentinel.com, a news website formerly covering local, state and national politics. In September 2006, Thomas launched FogCityJournal.com. The BBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News, New York Times, Der Spiegel, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Magazine, 7x7, San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Bay Guardian and the San Francisco Weekly, among other publications and news outlets, have published his work.
