A volunteer for the Joe Alioto  for District 3 Supervisor campaign was today discovered promoting a ‘yes’ vote on proposition 8, a measure on Tuesday’s ballot that seeks to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California.

While waving a Joe Alioto Jr. campaign sign outside San Francisco City Hall, the volunteer called out to passers by to vote for Joe Alioto and to vote ‘yes’ on proposition 8.

Supervisor Chris Daly, who heard the campaign chant, asked the volunteer why he supports proposition 8.

“I walked by, you said ‘Joe Alioto – Yes on 8.’ Why?” Daly asked.

“It’s a free country,” the volunteer responded.

Reached for comment about his position on proposition 8 and same-sex marriage, Joe Alioto told Fog City Journal:  “I have supported gay marriage from the beginning and I oppose proposition 8.”

Alioto said he does not know of anyone on his campaign who supports proposition 8 and suggested the volunteer is working for the David Chiu campaign.

  1. No need for hyperventilating over another non-story. Why should I or anyone care about Lil’ Joe Jr’s mook squad.

  2. I’m voting for Joe Alioto, here’s why:

  3. hey,

But, can anyone ID this guy? I know I’ve seen him before and had run-ins with him (nothing unusual about that) but
I can’t put my finger on it. Cop? Pinkerton’s? Bob Brigham?

    h.

  4. Joe’s response was that the guy was working for David Chiu’s campaign?

Another lie from Joe Alioto, Jr.

Just like when he claims to have been a prosecutor when he was only a certified law clerk and could only officially appear in court under the supervision of a real prosecutor.

Just like how he touts his “service” on the Telegraph Hill Dwellers Board, but actually did nothing on that board.

And just like when he conspired to intercept campaign materials of his sister’s opponent in her Congressional race.

NO on Prop 8. NO on Alioto.

  5. Hmmm,

“Denied him thrice before the cock crowed.”?
