Judge Denies Mirkarimi Request to Lift Stay Away Order, Expedites Hearing
Mirkarmi is facing three criminal misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident involving his wife, Eliana Lopez, on New Year’s Eve. He was ordered separated from his wife and the couple’s two-year old son, Theo, when charges of domestic violence, dissuading a witness and child endangerment were first filed, January 13. The “stay away” order remains in effect until there’s a resolution in his criminal trial, or is lifted by Judge Albers. Mirkarimi’s criminal trial is set to begin February 24.

Raise Funds for Affordable HousingThe City instituted a curb on condo conversions in response to increases in “no fault” tenant evictions, limiting conversions via a lottery to 200 per year. Currently there are 2,391 homeowners waiting in line for their chance to convert their tenancy-in-common mortgages into less costly and restrictive joint tenancy instruments.

Over New Year’s Eve IncidentIt is unknown what exactly transpired at the couple’s residence on December 31st. The incident was first reported to police by the couple’s neighbor, Ivory Madison, on January 4th. According to evidence documented by Madison, and later seized by police, Lopez received a bruise on her right arm during the alleged incident.
