Following Barack Obama’s inauguration to the US presidency yesterday, San Francisco Democrats attended a swimmingly fancy bash held in the Green Room of the War Memorial building.

Billed as “Inauguration West 2009,” the fundraiser/party attracted hundreds of Democratic Party faithful, including several local and state elected officials, to celebrate their party’s wresting control of the White House from the clutches of the Republican Party, and to bid good riddance farewell to former President George Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney’s Neocon corporatist agenda.

Following the Democratic Party soiree, Fog City Journal attended a peoples’ party organized by the League of Pissed Off Voters who were celebrating not being pissed off, at least for one day.

“We’ll have to wait and see if Barack is the real deal, or not,” said one league member, who requested not to be named, “but today we’re celebrating an historic moment in US history.”

The party was held at El Rio in the Mission District and was attended by several off-duty San Francisco Chronicle scribes who played well with the echelons of San Francisco’s progressive movement.
