The Eric Quezada Campaign for District Nine Supervisor received another important accolade yesterday when the Tenants Union voted to give him their sole endorsement for District 9 Supervisor.

“The Tenants Union chose to endorse Eric Quezada because he is the only candidate who has stuck his neck out for years for the housing justice movement. He has been in the trenches advocating for the needs of renters and working class people and I am still able to live in the Mission because of his work,” said Fran Taylor, a long time tenant activist and an award recipient of the Tenants Union Hall of Fame.

The Tenants Union is a vital endorsement in a district with one of the highest numbers of renters in the city.

The endorsement from the Tenants Union joins a strong labor and community endorsement list which includes UNITE HERE Local 2, SEIU 1021, California Nurse’s Association, the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 3299, and the Coleman Action Fund for Children.

“We are very proud of the endorsements we have earned thus far because they demonstrate the depth of our support among the community in District 9 and citywide”, said Campaign Coordinator Kendra Froshman.

About Eric Quezada

Eric Quezada is the Executive Director of Dolores Street Community Services, a Mission District-based organization providing housing, homeless, AIDS, and immigrant services. He was previously Director of Resident Programs for Mission Housing Development Corporation and is a co-founder of the Mission Anti-displacement Coalition. Eric moved to Bernal Heights 18 years ago when he was working in Portola at E.R. Taylor Elementary School. He is also a Board Member of the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center. His ties to District Nine go back to when his father, a Guatemalan immigrant, opened a bicycle shop on 24th Street.

Eric is most clearly recognized for his expertise and success in preserving and increasing affordable housing, the number one concern of San Franciscans. He also has proven successful, not only at being awarded and managing millions of dollars in City funds, but also in dealing at a managerial level with all of District Nine’s civic issues. These include crime reduction, educational opportunities, economic development, quality childcare, access to healthcare, open space, urban planning, immigrant rights, youth programs and services, tenants’ rights, small business growth and neighborhood preservation.
