    Restrictive Voting Laws: Making it Harder for Some to Vote

    In the 2008 presidential election, approximately 5 million more Americans voted than in 2004. And the voters were the most racially diverse in American history, with African-Americans, Latino, and Asian-American citizens voting in record number. Since the 2008 election, however, more than 30 states have introduced laws that make it harder to vote.

    Is the League of Women Voters Disenfranchising Candidates?

    The 150,000-member strong League of Women Voters – whose motto is “Making Democracy Work” – sent an email Friday to candidates running for elected office in San Francisco telling them they are not welcome to participate in their upcoming forums unless they can demonstrate they are “waging a formal campaign.”

    Supervisors’ Vendetta Against Sunshine Panel Incumbents

    Open-government activists believe, and with good reason, that the Board of Supervisors’ May 22 vote to oust three incumbents from the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force was in retaliation for a pair of task force actions that cast the board – and particularly President David Chiu and Supervisors Scott Wiener, Malia Cohen and Eric Mar – in an unfavorable light.
