  • Health Care: A Right, Not a Privilege

Socialized medicine is coming!! Lock your doors and shutter your windows. Why is the dreaded “S” word used to oppose health care reform? Those who use the dreaded “S” word never really define what they mean by socialism. To some, it is an expansion in government spending. For example, they deemed the stimulus bill socialist – even though the architect of such policies, John Maynard Keynes, advocated a capitalist economic system. Thus, President Obama who is trying to save capitalism from itself must be a socialist.

Elsbernd to Hold MUNI Safety Hearing

Ensuring the public’s safe transport has to be MUNI’s number one priority. As an elected official I am committed to doing whatever is in my power to protect the public. As a member of the Transportation Authority I have the duty to question the safety of a system that has had two serious accidents in little more than two weeks. The Budget calls for taking $4.7 billion from the counties, which will force many counties to cut services even further. And again, the governor and the legislature had to resort to budget gimmickry to pass a budget, albeit an unbalanced one. It is time for change.

    Thoughts on the Budget Process

Over the last 10 years, I have been involved in the City’s budget process, first as the organizing director of Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, then as staff for Supervisor Chris Daly, where I organized year after year with budget stakeholders to create a budget that represented the interests of working people. These experiences have been invaluable in learning the intricate City budget process and, most importantly, the politically challenging but all-important process of coalition building among the different budget stakeholders in the City.

What is clear, Eric Jaye’s campaign style is soooo 2007 and Newsom, who is behind Jerry Brown in the polls, has not been able to raise much in the way of serious campaign funds, prompting insider speculation Newsom’s gubernatorial campaign is DOA.
