Bayview community meeting and press conference Thursday on police suspensions

December 8, 2005, 10:00 a.m.

A Bayview community meeting and press conference will be held Thursday morning in response to suspension of 20 San Francisco police officers Wednesday.

Police Chief Heather Fong and Mayor Gavin Newsom announced the suspension following revelation of alleged officer participation in video productions the mayor's office described as ranging "from immature and vulgar to sexist, racist, and homophobic."

Newsom announced creation of a Blue Ribbon Commission "tasked with conducting a thorough and comprehensive review of the San Francisco Police Department's personnel policies, standards of conduct and training, as well as appropriate representations of the communities they serve."

Sponsored by the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and the Idriss Stelly Foundation, the 10:00 a.m. press conference will be held at 4921 3rd Street between Palou and Quesada Streets.
