Former Mayor's secretary to file harrasement lawsuit

By Matt Wynkoop

May 23, 2007

The former secretary to San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, Esther Hwang, will hold a news conference at noon Wednesday to announce a civil rights lawsuit that she plans to file against the San Francisco Police Department.

In a statement released yesterday by Hwang's attorney, Hwang alleges that she was harassed and wrongfully arrested by officers at around 10:30 p.m. on May 12 in the city's North Beach district.

Hwang claims that on the night if the incident, she had been standing in front of a North Beach nightclub when she became the victim of an "unprovoked attack'' by two officers as she was waiting for her boyfriend on a sidewalk.

Wednesday's news conference will be held at the North Beach Modeling Agency, located at 228 Columbus St in San Francisco.
