Joint Board of Supervisors and Police Commission meeting announced

By Aldrich M. Tan

May 15, 2006

The first joint meeting between the Police Commission and the Board of Supervisors, through the Select Committee on Ending Gun and Gang Violence, will take place in June at the Western Addition, Supervisor Sophie Maxwell confirmed at Monday's committee meeting.

The joint meeting will take place at 6 p.m. June 7 at the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center on McAllister Street, Maxwell said.

"I hope that there will be a uniformity of outlook for the Board of Supervisors and the police commission to mitigate gun and gang violence in San Francisco," Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi said.

Louise Renne, president of the police commission, said the joint meeting will be a useful dialogue.

"It will demonstrate how the different branches are reaching out to each other," Renne said at the police commission meeting on May 3.
