San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens has confirmed that one man is dead and another is critically injured in a shooting that occurred early this morning in the parking lot of Coit Tower.

Police found one of the victims dead inside a vehicle that had crashed off Telegraph Hill Boulevard. The other man, who had been shot multiple times, was knocking on doors in the area until someone answered and called 911 at 3:26 a.m.

The second victim is being treated at San Francisco General Hospital for multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.

"Two groups were in the parking lot of the tower," Gittens said.

"Some kind of conflict occurred. Shots were fired It's unclear whether or not both groups had guns."

Homicide investigators will be on scene interviewing residents and collecting evidence throughout the morning. Telegraph Hill Boulevard has been closed during the investigation, Gittens said.

Gittens did not release any suspect information and he said there was no further information available at this time.
