Gun sales ban extended to March 1

December 29, 2005

Gun sales will be legal in San Francisco to March 1, under an agreement announced yesterday.

The Prop H gun ban approved by voters November 8 requires an end to gun sales in the city on January 1. But National Rifle Association agreed to drop its bid for a temporary restraining order (TRO) due to the extension, the City Attorney's Office reported.

Litigating the issue in court will bring more timely resolution than the mechanism of a TRO.

The ban, which received 58% voter approval, requires San Franciscans to get rid of their guns by April 1.
