Gwen Chan named interim SFUSD Superintendent

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - The San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education has appointed a new interim superintendent, who will begin Feb. 1.

Gwen Chan, a graduate of the district, has been a career educator in San Francisco for almost 40 years, according to the district.

Chan has moved up the ranks, first beginning as a teacher, moving to principal, associate superintendent of schools, chief development officer and most recently Chan served as the deputy superintendent, according to the district.

Chan will be the first Chinese American to serve as head of the San Francisco Unified School District.

Chan will begins her new position today.
