Sandoval: Button the non-English lip

July 11, 2006

Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval today calls on the Board of Supervisors to establish English as the official San Francisco language.

Shakespearean English.

The District 11 supervisor, representing predominantly Latino neighborhoods, lampoons state and national English-only efforts by further suggesting City libraries rid their shelves of books not written "in the Bard's tongue."

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will consider the resolution at today's 2:00 p.m. meeting.

Sandoval asks all City and County workers to restrain themselves to speaking Shakespearean English, and urges non-documented workers be barred from purchasing San Francisco condominium or Tenancy-In-Common properties.
