Writers back San Francisco teachers

February 8, 2006

The National Writers Union Bay Area Chapter (NWU) voted unanimously last night to support San Francisco teachers in contract negotiations.

NWU-UAW Local 1981 has some 250 members locally and 3,000 participants nationally.

"...Because we're an organization of freelance writers and editors, we can provide support to other unions in the form of our skill sets," noted Richard Knee.

Knee sits on the local union chapter as steering committee member, and serves as acting Journalism Division Chair.
