As with the weapons industry, peace is bad for business in the
San Francisco blogosphere. Does this mean I need to start being
nice, too?

Everybody will have to find a new beef to follow. My suggestion:
the Lauren Conrad/Heidi Montag/Spencer Pratt feud on MTV's The
Hills, or the Kanye West/50 Cent feud.
What's a girl gotta do to get a good candidate around here?
Apparently, more than just make fun of everyone. Nobody's making
this experience easy for us bloggers. Beth Spotswood writes
about two people who aren't running, h. Brown writes
about himself, Josh Wolf videotapes
himself, and I've pretty much lost interest.
Of course, there was talk of yours truly getting drafted,
but I have no interest in participating in wonky policy discussions
and boring meetings. San Francisco sees enough of my smirking
mug on a regular basis.
However, I'm disappointed that those who have exhibited the most
passion and least attention whoring are getting very little ink.
Former Supervisor Tony Hall has been dismissed as a bitter wedding
singer, and Bayview activist Dr. Ahimsa Porter Sumchai was left
off the Chron's original list altogether. Lonnie Holmes struggles
to get any ink at all.

These candidates have been working well before the filing deadline
to launch serious campaigns on issues that affect San Franciscans.
They have no gimmicks or cheesy slogans, and are fighting the
good fight with very little money and support. Most of the media
attention on this mayor's race has revolved around those who didn't
end up running.
First Mayoral Debate
Don't miss the first mayoral debate to be held at 5 p.m. today
at Alioto Piazza (in front of City Hall). Confirmed attendees
include: H. Brown, George Davis, Tony Hall, Lonnie Holmes, Grasshopper
Kaplan, Quintin Mecke, Wilma Pang, Michael Powers, Ahimsa Porter
Sumchai, Billy Bob Whitmer, and Josh Wolf. We're hoping Mayor
Gavin Newsom will have a change of heart and grace the event with
his presence.
Update 3:54 p.m: Campaign Manager Mark O'Hara announced
this afternoon Tony Hall will not be attending the mayoral debate.
Update August, 18: Although O'Hara announced Hall was
going to be a no-show, Hall attended the debate.
