Sandoval extinguishes rumor

A rumor circulating suggests Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval may give up his District 11 seat on the Board of Supervisors before his term ends in January 2009, should Sandoval go on to win election to Superior Court judge in June.

Sandoval made it clear to Fog City Journal during an interview Thursday that he will complete his full term on the Board of Supervisors.

"The seat that I am running for has a term that begins January 9th, 2009. That's the day I would take office as a judge, and that's also the last day that I can serve, and would serve, as a member of the Board of Supervisors," Sandoval responded to Fog City Journal inquiry.

"Legally, the term begins in January of 2009 and I'll have to wait until then to begin serving," Sandoval added.

Asked if he would consider offers from Mayor Gavin Newsom to give up his seat on the Board before January 2009, Sandoval said, "Let me be very clear about this. He [Mayor Gavin Newsom] could offer me something, but I would not accept. I am going to serve my full term no matter what happens."
